"During daytime there's a chicken rice shop (quite nice), curry mee (nothing special) and wanton noodles (average). There's other stalls which I didn't try During night time, there's a great liew fun stall which open from 12pm to 8pm. From 4pm they also sell curry fish head. Enjoyed the liew, fresh and good. The curry fish head tasted fine but too few and small pieces of fish head, consist mostly of vegetables"

"I fear the quest for the perfect ???????????????????????? (soft spring rolls) may forever remain illusory. Perhaps my gold standard from four-and-a-half decades ago has been softened by time’s rosy tint. The benchmark was set by a perpetually irascible hawker stationed outside the Church of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, at the cusp of Canning and Ipoh Gardens. His famed “10-ingredient” rolls were peerless - and the standard by which all others are judged. Naturally, he is no longer with us. So when word spread that his son had taken over to continue the “legacy,” hope stirred anew. I was told the stall now operated from a kopitiam in Ipoh New Town - evenings only. As fate would have it, we were in town for a rare overnight stay. There was no chance I wouldn’t seek him out. True enough, he was open - and besieged by an eager crowd. I waited nearly 30 minutes for my takeaway. Yet even before the first bite, I sensed disappointment. The recipe had been pared down, almost halved. Gone were the essential prawn crisp, the stewed pork belly, smoked tofu, bean sprouts, hoisin sauce - the very building blocks of depth and decadence. What remained was serviceable, but the lush richness, intense umami, layered complexity of his father’s popiah were, sadly, absent. As the song goes, “Those were the days my friend!”"

"Came here for brunch. I ordered from Majie curry stall. Hor fun clear soup is nice with a char siew sweetness soup. I also ordered prawn noodle from another beef noodle stall. Big portion with 1 hard boiled egg and a big prawn."

"Came here all the way just for their popiah… but it was closed on a Sunday morning at 8am. Came early to avoid the crowd, end up avoid the food also… so sad Since already here, we just made do with what’s available. I had the curry chee cheong fun, decent and comforting. My husband tried the curry mee, and surprisingly the kerang were very big broth was rich and flavourful too. We also had the beef noodle, which was not bad, quite satisfying. Not the original plan, but still managed to get a decent meal. Just maybe check the popiah opening hours next time… lesson learnt"
